I have a question. When converting your stroke to path, is there a way to turn it back to stroke from path?Baby dragon! Baby dragon! Baby dragon!

Ah. I have like tons of problems when I convert to path, because the middle of the object I made, would  not fill.

Why are you changing stroke to path, if you want the middle not to be hollow ?
You can just make an object with Pen and then add Fill.
Or, if you really want to use Stroke to Path and have it filled, select the inner nodes and delete them.

So, for example :
Make a square with Pen Tool, select it and from "Fill and Stroke" menu -> Set "Fill" to desired color and "Stroke Paint" to "No Paint"

OR

Make a square with Pen Tool, change it to Path, and with Node tool, select the 4 nodes inside ( Click them directly, or the line between them to select 2 nodes) and then delete them (Delete on you keyboard).

Hello Hawk, I have a question. I do some vectors, here examples:fav.me/d7grx30 and fav.me/d7g1wnm
And they are with a white landscape, but I don't want it. How I remove it?

First off, You exporting it incorrectly. Do exactly as the tutorial says :
Go to File -> Extract bitmap -> select Drawing (Not page) -> name it and check the format (PNG not JPEG).

Second thing, check if you don't have any layers with white background underneath everything.

And the last thing : Go to Document Properties ( from file menu or Shift+Ctrl+D)  and check something. Select Page (It's open by default), look at the "General". There are
"Default units [px]"
and
"Background [colored bar]"
Click that bar and make sure every color and opacity is set to 0.

Object to path works only with "predefined" shapes. So rectangles, letters, stars etc. Basically, shapes that you create with a specific tool (Like "create rectangles and squares").
After creating an ellipse, select it and then change it to path via "Path" menu. Then you can edit it with a Node tool.

To clip objects you need to have 2 objects selected at once. (SHIFT +LMB for multi-selecting).
Create an ellipse, then create another one that partially covers the first one. Now select them both and "Clip" them.

Are you sure you have selected the Ellipse tool ?
Check if you have selected and unlocked the right layer and you have set opacity to 100%.
Oh and it's a "drag tool". You have to Hold LMB and then drag your cursor across the screen to draw a circle.

First of try to draw a circle on a clean file.
Open Inkscape (fresh file - just startup Inkscape).
Select Ellipse tool, click, hold and drag your cursor. Now, look at the bottom left of your screen. There should be 2 colored bars and some numbers. "Fill : [color]", "Stroke [color] + width (right click to change)", and " O: [number] <- Set it to 100.

Second thing, Can you make a square with the rectangles tool on the original file.

Third  thing - Tell me what are you doing step by step and at what point it doesn't work.

Well, I'm working with Inkscape more than a year and I'm still not sure how it works :D Anyway, as I understand you have a problem with an eye. So I will guide you step by step.
But instead of an actual eye, open a new file or something and work with simple shapes, you to see how to do it later.
So:
1. Draw a red square
2. Draw a blue ellipse -  - It should cover half of the square
3. Select the square, copy it (CTRL+C) and paste it in the same position (CTRL+ALT+V). It should be above the ellipse.
4. Select the copied square and ellipse and clip them.
5. You should now have a red square with a part of the blue ellipse in it.
6. Now draw a another ellipse but green . It should cover half of the blue part.
7. Do exactly the same as before - copy the square, paste it and clip it with the green ellipse.
8. You should now have a square that have 3 colours in it. Left half is red, right one is blue and green.

I hope this will help you.
If not, just say, and I will try to explain it to you differently :)

Hey now another problem XD I can't upload as a svg.... what to do?
Reply
:iconhawk9mm:
Hawk9mm Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Because you can't upload a SVG file as a Deviation, since it's not a picture but a "raw" working file.
You have to upload a PNG file as an Deviation. You can upload SVG files to your Sta.sh profile and then link it in the description or whatever. If I'm not mistaken only people with link can view files in your Sta.sh. So if you want to allow others to download your SVG files, you have to give them a link.

Btw. To access your Sta.sh click that small arrow next to DeviantArt logo (top left) -> Sta.sh and upload file.

I'm one of those weirdos that doesn't use layers XD But I do everything pretty much the same with the exception of the eyes, as I make smaller circles using the ellipse tool.

Hawk9mm Featured By Owner Dec 1, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Well, usually these ellipses are a lot smaller, but this was an exception + I could show people how to deal with situations like this.

And you should really start using layers. Especially when you allow people to download SVG files. Layers makes the file easier to edit/navigate. My old vectors are on one layer and I can tell you - I do NOT like editing them. It's a mess.

< Read the previous comment, it's been about a year. And it wasn't even me

I used to not use layers. But what I did do was make lots of groups. One group for each body part. And it turns out, as I have discovered through experimentation, that you can actually turn a group into a layer by adding one line of SVG code, so all my older vectors can now be redone.

And this is an easy way to tidy up those older vectors too. Start grouping, from top to bottom. Then open up the XML Editor and select a group, and you'd type in the smaller box inkscape:groupmode and in the larger box you'd type layer then click Set, and it will become a layer. Magic.
